Last week Laurelwood celebrated National Nursing Home week in style. Each day brought a host of wonderful events for residents and staff. Luncheons, games and special events we dispearsed throughout the week. A special treat was the ” Fun at the Fair” Canival event. SHC of Columbia breaks Superman’s record for longest wheelchair parade

On April 24, Signature HealthCARE of Columbia broke the World Record for longest wheelchair race, with 205 wheelchairs. The record was previously held by the Christopher Reeve Foundation, with 193 wheelchairs. Local radio station WXRQ was on hand broadcasting live from the parade, and WSMV-TV (channel 4) featured the event on its six o’clock newscast. The Columbia Daily Herald also published a front-page article.

Veteran’s Benefits Seminar Informs Area Residents

The evening of April 9th Laurelwood was host to over 45 area veterans and their families. Mr. William Fetzer, of Fetzer and Associates, presented information to a packed house on the often overlooked aid and attendance benefit. Mr. Fetzer is an expert in the area of financial planning and benefits and was able to give many families additional information on how to make this benefit available. A wonderful presentation and lovely refreshments were enjoyed by all.

Casino Night- Oh what a Night!

A wonderful evening was had by all as Casino Night and the Laurelwood high rollers played cards well into the evening! Sunglasses, candy and a framed photograph of Marilyn Monroe where eagerly sought after prizes by the winners of each game. Music was played and refreshments were served as the dealer did a wonderful job of keeping the events rolling!

Easter was a busy time here at Laurelwood. On Friday we celebrated Good Friday with communion and a brief “Stations of the Cross” worship service. On Easter Sunday we celebrated the resurrection with worship and song.

We are now looking forward to a new session of Grief Share on Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:30 beginning on April 3rd.

We have started a new program called Coffee and Devotions with Mindy. We meet in the dining room at 8:30 on Monday mornings for a brief time of quiet and reflection. Please call our main number 410-398-8800 for more information.

Another Easter Egg Hunt and a Visit from the Easter Bunny!

Twice in one year! What are the chances? The bunny made another appearance Saturday morning March 30 while families ate a wonderful breakfast prepared especially for them Many area children and their families came to dine with residents and staff early Saturday morning. A large area on the front lawn was used as the perfect place to hide eggs. Children of all ages holding multicolored bags ran to collect eggs and see what prizes were hiding inside. A wonderful time was had by all!

Area School Children and Laurelwood Residents Visit with Easter Bunny!

Tuesday morning Laurelwood residents had the pleasure of visiting with area school children and none other than the Easter Bunny himself. 25 five and six year olds visited Laurelwood yesterday in search of hidden Easter eggs. Dozens of eggs were placed around the facility for our visitors to find. Residents happily interacted with the children as the traveled from area to area and down the halls in search of hidden eggs. The man of the hour was none other than the Easter Bunny as can be seen here in this festive photo!

Fridays at 4:00 pm everyone’s lettin’ their hair down around Laurelwood! Dining and activities have teamed up to provide a fun filled happy hour for our residents and their guests. Each Friday snacks and drinks are provided and residents are encouraged to come out and participate in some fun, music and friendship. So…… if you are in the neighborhood, come down and enjoy a snack and visit from one of your favorite residents.
